Admitting Mistakes

Admitting Mistakes

Do not be afraid to admit mistakes, because honesty is valued. Do be afraid to admit other peoples’ mistakes because stupidity and duplicity is not valued. The greatest advantage to admitting mistakes, taking blame, showing accountability, is that the knowledge gained is primarily yours. You know why something went wrong, not just in theory but in practice. Your knowledge can be called upon in other areas to make sure other people don’t fuck up like you did, and in the process, you earn your redemption. On the other hand, your reputation for failure may precede you, so you might be valued for your ability to screw things up – see ‘Serial Incompetence’.
