Serial Incompetence

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different outcome each time. Serial incompetence is the acceptance of incompetence, for an unfathomable gain. Serial incompetents in the office resemble the products of spooky evolution that take place on an isolated island divorced from mainland savagery. There creatures evolve in peculiar environments; give them tropical sunshine, a rock to lie on, a sea brimming with easy prey, and you can end up with very lazy creatures. In human form, the creatures have more leeway – not only do they live, but they make mistakes, lazing their days away on the cushion of a society floating in a sea of excess that tolerates their mistakes. Serial incompetents are at the far end of the 80% cannon fodder spectrum, they are the exemplars of how wrong anti-ambition can go. They are deluded, they are happy, they are everywhere.  But they do serve a purpose other than being models of low, zero, or negative production. They are the ones who can disrupt the plans of the ambitious.

Example
... Your Rival implants the idea in your Boss’s head that a certain Serial Incompetent should team up with You. It all seems very honourable – the Incompetent may learn a thing or two from You. When the moment comes you realise You cannot teach the Incompetent anything. Furthermore they can not help You, and the more You have to help Them the more ground your Rival has made on You. Your Boss now thinks You can’t manage someone simple like the Serial Incompetent (your Boss might even begin formulating a devious plan to transfer incompetent You to a rival Boss’s team). So devise a plan whereby whatever You and the Incompetent were working on has to be given up, so the fruitless partnership peels apart and the Serial Incompetent is sent packing to some other domain. Create some face saving excuse for the Serial Incompetent to please the crowd. No matter how you get out of the situation, You have lost time, your Rival is ahead, and the last your Boss thinks of You is Incompetence. The Serial Incompetent is as always, happy to help, or appears to be...

Another example of Serial Incompetence is something less publicized buy widely active: if a superior can not fire, cast-away or drown the Serial Incompetent, then they may just have to promote them out. The Serial Incompetent is set up with a little role, probably more ceremonial than practical, out of harm’s way.

Hell is the impossibility of reason – Dante
